Remnant 2
Despite losing much of their power from the previous game, Traits in Remnant 2 still offer significant power-ups for any budding adventurer.
Leveling up and collecting weapons, armor, and accessories are the main ways to scale a player's power in Remnant 2. These provide the most tangible performance upgrades as they directly impact how big damage numbers get. However, these aren't the only sources of strength one can find.

Traits have been slightly reworked in Remnant 2 compared to the first game. Since there are no longer any individual Trait Cards that directly affect the player's damage output, many of the ones in this game are mainly designed around improving defense and quality of life. Even so, Gunfire Games limited how many Trait Points players get per character, making every investment crucial. The real question now is: what's the cap?
Remnant 2's Trait Point cap is at a hard 65. Once players reach this point, they will no longer get any Trait Points after taking down bosses (including Abberations that drop Mutators), and picking up Tomes of Knowledge will yield absolutely nothing. This may change in the future as the game gets patched.
Remnant 2's first major patch, dated 08.04.23, increased the maximum Trait Point cap to 65. Additionally, Tomes of Knowledge now grants Scrap and XP for the player's currently-equipped Archetypes.
As for individual Traits, players can only invest up to 10 points per card, meaning that a character can only have up to six maxed-out Traits at a time (until the Trait Point cap is increased, at least). The biggest exception here is Archetype Traits — these are always active, and they gain points as the player's main and secondary Archetypes gain levels. They do not contribute to the max Trait Point cap.
Once an Archetype Trait reaches max level, it becomes available even if the player decides to change their Archetype. For example, the Longshot Trait is normally exclusive to the Hunter Archetype. However, once players get Hunter to Level 10, then they'll be able to invest Trait Points in Longshot while using a different Archetype.
Players may notice that some of their Traits have golden blips instead of the usual blue. This indicates that the points in them are free and do not contribute to the max cap. Going back to the previous example, if players use their Level 10 Hunter, then Longshot will have a full row of golden Trait Point blips. Swapping out of the Hunter Archetype removes all points from Longshot, essentially deactivating the Trait until players invest their spare points into them.
Trait Point investment can be reset by purchasing an Orb of Renewal from Wallace at Ward 13.
Remnant 2 is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
The max is 65.
