DNR Issues Safety Reminder as Boat, ATV/UTV Fatalities Climb

MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — As we head into the weekend, a reminder from the Wisconsin Department of Natural resources for those hitting the trails and waterways.

“Safe and sober,” That’s the reminder from the Wisconsin DNR to people enjoying their recreational vehicles.

So far this year there have been nine boating fatalities, five of them in July, and 17 Fatal ATV/UTV crashes.

When you’re on the water, always wear a properly fitted life jacket.

Operators and passengers of ATVs and UTVs should wear helmets, seat belts and protective clothing. As always, the DNR recommends you save your alcohol consumption until you’re finished recreating.
