PNG boxers win gold medals at Aust golden gloves competition
Papua New Guinea’s John Ume and Allan Oaike performed superbly well winning two gold medals at the prestigious Australian Golden Gloves competition over the weekend.
The two boxers, who trained at Fortitude Boxing Gym in Brisbane, Australia prior to the competition, defeated top-seeded opponents in their respective weight classes.
Ume, competing in the 63.5kg division, knocked out his opponent, Bayan Yazdani, in the first round in his opening bout, while Oaike won a close decision in the 57kg division against John Deluxe, a former African athlete.
